The American Arborvitae, `Thuja occidentalis,' has a broad, pyramidal shape with erect branches that are dense and very crowded together. This evergreen conifer is widely used as an accent tree in a privacy hedge. Its features bright green upper leaves color with pale green undersides. The leaves may turn a yellow brown in some harsher winters. An American Arborvitae can be sheared and shaped to fit into almost any landscape. Once established, the tree can withstand considerable heat and drought.
