The Adams Needle Bush, `Yucca filamentosa,' is much hardier than it appears, and will only fail in cold, exposed inland locations, where they are more suited to be grown in containers. Adams Needle has stiff, evergreen rosettes that are commonly seed in hot, dry Central and North American scrublands. This variety features white-edged, lance-shaped leaves. It will produce dense clumps of stiff leaves that may reach thirty inches in length with fine, curly hairs. The flower spikes can reach up to six feet in height, and appear once the plants are five or more years old.
The American Beech Tree, `Fagus grandifolia,' is a deciduous species with leaves that are a beautiful dark green color in the summer and fade to a golden brown in the autumn. It produces a short trunk with a spreading crown. This is a very stately tree that will grow best in full sunlight, but can withstand some partial shade. With a slow to moderate growth rate, the American Beech tree is a good dense shade tree that produces nuts to attract birds and squirrels.

American maidenhair ferns grow best in moist, shady conditions, but will grow in sunnier locations with more moisture. The wiry stems are reddish brown to black in color. The American Sycamore, `Platanus occidentalis,' is a fast growing, large shade tree that has a massive trunk. This is a very rugged and adaptable tree. Its wide-spreading, open crown of large crooked branches will provide maximum shade for any lawn. Its bark flakes off in irregular thin pieces to give its trunk and branches an impressive mottled look. It features a moderate tolerance to salt and alkali soils, and has moderate water requirements.
The Angel Face Rose is a garden variety of rose that has a very well balanced Old Rose scent. The leaves may turn a yellow brown in some harsher winters. An American Arborvitae can be sheared and shaped to fit into almost any landscape. Once established, the tree can withstand considerable heat and drought.
